Our History
Free Our Vote began in 2020 in response to the opacity and downstream consequences faced by voters with felony convictions in Florida. Though a state amendment legally re-enfranchised returning citizens who completed the terms of their sentence, administrative disarray prevented many from doing so.
Since 2020, we have invested in our relationships with grassroots organizations, charitable donors, and a network of academics operating in this space. Those bonds have helped us to identify the ubiquity of similar barriers to democracy outside of Florida. We now operate in several states and continue to grow.
